AES-256-GCM on Windows
Hardware-accelerated OpenVPN tunnel. Full throughput on modern CPUs, low battery impact on laptops.
Windows is the most-targeted desktop OS in the world. Astraguard VPN encrypts every byte leaving your PC, and this page shows you exactly which Windows 11 / Windows 10 settings to change to stop 90% of everyday attacks. BitLocker, Defender, UAC, SmartScreen, Controlled Folder Access, and a properly configured OpenVPN profile.
openvpn.net, import your Astraguard .ovpn profile, enable BitLocker + Defender + Controlled Folder Access, run as a Standard User, and you have a seriously hardened Windows PC.
Windows is chatty. Astraguard VPN puts an encrypted fence around all of that outbound traffic.
Hardware-accelerated OpenVPN tunnel. Full throughput on modern CPUs, low battery impact on laptops.
Auto-start on boot, no login prompt, reconnect on network change. Your VPN is just always there.
Your ISP cannot see which Microsoft, Google, or ad-tech endpoints Windows talks to — only an encrypted tunnel.
US, UK, Germany, EU, Japan, and more. Swap regions from the tray in two clicks.
Email + 150+ cryptocurrencies. No bank record tied to your Windows PC identity.
VPN and antivirus solve different problems — Astraguard plays nicely with Windows Defender and 3rd-party AVs.
Works on Windows 11, Windows 10 (x64 and ARM).
Create an account, choose a plan ($2.99/day and up), pay by card or crypto.
Download the official Windows installer from openvpn.net. Two options: OpenVPN GUI (tray icon, system service, advanced) or OpenVPN Connect (modern GUI). Either works perfectly.
From your Astraguard dashboard, pick a server and save the .ovpn configuration to your PC.
In OpenVPN GUI: right-click the tray icon → Import file. In OpenVPN Connect: drag the .ovpn into the app.
Enter your Astraguard password, approve the TAP/TUN virtual adapter if Windows prompts, and confirm the new IP at astraguardvpn.com/check.
In OpenVPN GUI, move your .ovpn into C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config-auto and run OpenVPN as a service, or simply tick Launch at login in OpenVPN Connect.
Each one of these prevents a class of common attacks. Do them once, enjoy them forever.
Settings → Windows Update. Turn on automatic updates, install pending updates, reboot. Attackers mass-exploit unpatched machines within days of a CVE release.
Control Panel → BitLocker Drive Encryption → Turn on BitLocker for your C: drive. Store the recovery key in your Microsoft account or a password manager. A lost laptop is now just a brick.
Windows Security → Virus & threat protection: enable real-time, cloud-delivered, and tamper protection. These three together block the overwhelming majority of commodity malware.
Create one admin account and one daily-use Standard User. Malware cannot install itself silently without your password. This single change blocks most Windows infections outright.
Windows Security → Ransomware protection → Controlled folder access ON. Blocks unknown apps from editing Documents, Desktop, Pictures — the folders ransomware goes for.
Windows Security → App & browser control → Reputation-based protection → set downloads and Microsoft Store apps to Block instead of Warn.
Windows Features → uncheck SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support. Many wormable exploits target ancient protocols nobody actually uses in 2026.
Add the Astraguard OpenVPN profile to auto-start. On hotel, coworking, or conference WiFi, your traffic is protected before you even open a browser.
Yes. Astraguard works on Windows 10 and Windows 11 (x64 + ARM) via the free, official OpenVPN client.
Yes. Defender protects you from malware. A VPN encrypts your network traffic so nobody on the WiFi or your ISP can see what you are doing. They cover different attack surfaces and are complementary.
On the closest Astraguard region the extra latency is usually a few milliseconds. For competitive matchmaking pick the server closest to your city.
Yes. Place your .ovpn in C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config-auto and use the OpenVPN service. Or use OpenVPN Connect's Launch at login + Connect on startup.
No. We recommend installing the official OpenVPN client from openvpn.net, which is signed and trusted. The .ovpn configuration is just a text file — no executable component.
Astraguard VPN + Windows hardening checklist = a dramatically smaller attack surface in under 30 minutes.
